5 Tips to a Great Lawn

Get it done easy and fast with the right tools

Spring is almost here and it is time to clean up that yard. 

Here are 5 things to do now so you can enjoy your yard for the rest of the summer.

1.  Clean up all the debris from winter. Where does all of that garbage come from anyway?  Get rid of the leaves and papers that have blown into your yard.

2.  Level the ground.  This is best done in the spring when the ground is still soft.  If your yard is small, a regular hand roller filled with water will work well.  If your yard is larger, consider a tow-behind unit for your lawn tractor, or maybe a riding roller if you have an acre or more.  Many size rollers are available at ABC Rental.

3.  Thatch if necessary.  Thatch is the brown mess choking out your grass.  You can rent a lawn comber (Thatcher).  Some are even equipped with a bag.  Check with your ABC Rental professional to see what method is best for you.

4.  Aerate.  This is the process of poking holes and pulling plugs out of your lawn.  This allows water, air and nutrients to the root system of your grass.  Your yard will look a little funny when you do it (all of the plugs look like a flock of geese flew over your yard), but you can be sure your lawn will grow full and green in weeks to come.

5.  Edging.  Cut out around your trees and flower beds to make a neat edge.  This makes your yard look well groomed and it will also make cutting the grass easier.  You can do this on your hands and knees but I recommend visiting ABC Rental for a power unit.  We will show you how to operate the machine safely.
